The Benefits of Diving with Nitrox in the Red Sea
Whether you're planning diving
in Sharm El Sheikh, enjoying shore dives while diving in Dahab, or embarking on a week-long Red Sea adventure,
diving with Nitrox can significantly enhance your underwater experience.
Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx) has become increasingly popular among recreational
divers thanks to its ability to extend no-decompression limits and make
repetitive diving more comfortable.
At Circle Divers, Nitrox is included free of charge for all Nitrox-certified divers at both our Sharm El Sheikh dive centre and Dahab dive centre, allowing you to get
the most out of every dive day in Red
Sea Egypt.
What Is Nitrox?
Nitrox, also known as Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx), contains a
higher percentage of oxygen and less nitrogen than standard air. The most
common blends are EAN32 and EAN36. Because you absorb less nitrogen during an
Nitrox dive, Nitrox offers several advantages for recreational diving,
especially when making multiple dives over several days.
1. Longer Bottom Times
One of the biggest reasons divers switch to Nitrox is the
ability to stay underwater longer and extend your bottom time while remaining
within no-decompression limits.
This is particularly useful when:
·
Diving famous Red Sea reefs
·
Exploring wrecks around
Sharm El Sheikh
·
Spending extended time
photographing marine life
·
Making multiple dives each
day
Those extra minutes underwater can make a huge difference
when diving some of Egypt's spectacular sites.
2. Reduced Nitrogen Absorption
Since Nitrox contains less nitrogen, your body absorbs less
during each dive. Many experienced divers use Nitrox conservatively,
maintaining air dive profiles while benefiting from additional safety margins.
This is especially valuable for:
·
Dive holidays in Red Sea
Egypt
·
Liveaboards
·
Consecutive diving days
·
Technical and recreational
divers alike
3. Shorter Surface Intervals
If you're completing three or four dives a day, shorter
surface intervals become a major advantage.
Nitrox allows your body to off-gas nitrogen more
efficiently, helping you return to the water sooner and enjoy more of your
diving holiday.
4. Less Post-Dive Fatigue
Although scientific research is still ongoing, many divers
report feeling noticeably less tired after diving with Nitrox. This benefit of
nitrox is particularly appreciated during intensive diving weeks in Dahab or
Sharm El Sheikh.
More energy means:
·
More enjoyment after diving
·
Better recovery between
dive days
·
More comfortable dive
holidays
5. Ideal for Diving in Dahab and Sharm El Sheikh
The Red Sea is famous for its abundance of dive sites and
excellent visibility. Most divers visiting Egypt complete multiple dives daily,
making Nitrox an ideal choice.
Whether you're:
·
Shore diving in Dahab
·
Exploring the SS
Thistlegorm
·
Scuba diving Ras Mohammed
National Park
·
Joining a technical diving
programme
·
Taking a liveaboard
Nitrox helps you maximise your underwater time while
reducing nitrogen loading.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Nitrox suitable for beginner divers?
Yes. Once Open Water Diver certified, divers can take the
Enriched Air Nitrox course. It is considered one of the easiest and most useful
specialty certifications available.
Do I need to make dives to become Nitrox certified?
No. The Nitrox course can be completed entirely as a dry
course with no in-water sessions required.
Does Nitrox allow unlimited bottom time?
No. Divers must still stay within no-decompression limits
and respect maximum operating depths. Nitrox extends limits but does not remove
them.
Is Nitrox free at Circle Divers?
Yes. Circle Divers offers complimentary Nitrox fills to all
Nitrox-certified divers at both Dahab and Sharm El Sheikh.
Can a PADI Nitrox Certification Be Used At SSI or BSAC Dive Centres?
Yes the PADI EAN (or Nitrox Diver) certification can be used
at any dive centre to show you are certified and have received the correct
training for using enriched air. Likewise, any other recognised diving
association, such as SSI, CMAS, SDI, RAID, etc., can be used at a PADI dive
centre.
